Tutorials: How & Why to Use Blog Categories

Once you’ve created a batch of blog posts on your site, you’ll want to start organising them to make all that great content easier to get to.  You’ll naturally find within your content there are some themes starting to emerge and if you can start to assign categories to those blog posts it will help you keep track of the topics your covering whilst also making it easier for readers to find the posts they’re most interested in.

 

Ways to use categories

Related posts

Within your blog posts you can use the ‘Summary Block’ to display 3 or 4 posts on the same topic.  This will not only be helpful to readers but will encourage them to spend more time on your site.

 

Easy to find

By adding links to different categories at the top of your blog homepage you can make it easy for readers to narrow down the content they want to read

 

Better search results

If you use a search bar on your website the categories will help the most useful posts show up when a reader searched a related topic
